Asset Creation

In order to create this environment that main pieces that need to be created are the exterior walls, roof and shutter - this is so we can get a sense of space and start visualizing interior assets.

The first asset i made was the wall along with vertical and horizontal support beams to be used in a modular fashion.

I then made the shutter door which went through a few iterations of designs as i didn't like the first one so i wanted to remake it - the decision to do this was well worth it as i really like the design and attention to detail in the model.

Next, i needed to make the roof assets, due to the level being based at night time i made the decision to make these asset lower detail as they will not be seen clearly by the player - my thought process behind how i was going to create these assets was to use the wall assets dimensions and textures but remove the detailed rivets in the mesh - this is to save on the poly-count but by keeping the same visual style. With the slanted roof assets i create 2 variations; 1 plain roof and 1 window tile, this is so we can use the slanted window to direct lighting into the warehouse and use it to direct the player.

Following on from this, the next important stage was to develop the warehouse floor and exterior terrain textures. After holding a meeting with W.P and R.P i brought up the idea of using 'Megascans' which is an extremely useful texture library that has realistic textures with phenomenal height maps. From this library i gathered a warehouse floor texture as well as a grass texture for the exterior. This was all that i created for the warehouse structure and allowed us to start populating the environment.

The last asset i created for the environment was the overhead light, this asset i had great pleasure in creating as i feel that i put a lot of detail and story telling into it - i made a few versions that i did i felt did not work before i creating the final design. I feel that the extra small detail really make this asset pop and showcase storytelling. This asset is placed multiple times on the warehouse roof, with some of the lights flickering in order to direct the player around the environment.
